Yoga
According to Sage Patanjali, who is known as the father of yoga, yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind.
Iyengar Yoga is a tradition of Yoga named for its creator, BKS Iyengar, of Pune India. Some of the characteristics of Iyengar Yoga are its attention to correct bodily alignment and the use of props.

Students of Iyengar Yoga begin their studies learning how to correctly align the body through Hatha Yoga standing poses. All students with physical limitations (through age, injury, or inflexibility) are introduced to the appropriate use of props, (blocks, chairs, etc). The use of appropriate props allows, students with no prior yoga experience, to realize the full benefits of the pose.

Proper alignment of the body is an integral part of the Iyengar tradition of Hatha Yoga. In addition to many health related benefits, proper alignment creates a conduit for channeling energy. The proper flow of energy allows the body to relax and the mind to focus on doing the poses. When the mind is focused it becomes quieter and begins to be aware of the task at hand. It is through the mind becoming quieter that the fluctuations of the mind becomes stilled. It is this stilling of the mind that allows us to be at peace withourselves and others. This takes much devotional practice over a long period time.
