| I have some questions for the yoga community here:
Do you consider yourself to be a Yogi?
What do you believe is required of a Yogi to earn the title, if anything?
Do you believe in a higher power? If so, please briefly describe your religious beliefs.
What is the purpose of yoga?
What is the Bhagavad Gita?
Please try to answer honestly and reply without reading any responses to the thread to reduce bias. |

| Fascinating questions. What are your answers? Why do you think reading other people's responses would bias our own? |
|
|
|
| My intention isn't to promote or deliver my own beliefs. There are no wrong answers. "I don't know" is a perfectly acceptable answer. No one will be cited as being wrong or foolish.
Bias will occur if people read responses because their answers could easily be altered based on popular opinion. I would prefer answers straight from the heart. Citing my own beliefs would bias the discussion thoroughly, in that, people may attempt to pick sides. |

| Hi.
_look it up in Wikipedia. However it is a personal thing. I would generally (not always) say that anyone who claims to be a yogi is clearly not. Go to the next Kumbhemela in India and you will meet many yogis who will be different from one another.Generally it is one who follows yamas and niyamas strictly, devoting his/her life to yoga.
Higher power-You must define what higher power is. From my guess of what you mean it is power that is beyond the general public? In which case it exists on many levels e.g. better coordination or using parts of the mind that are often underused.
Nowadays there are many purposes to yoga-just check out all the different subjects and posts. Originally yoga is concentration. Nothing else, dont be fooled by later books such as the bhagavad Gita bringing god into the equation.
Whats your vies McYoga? Are you call Mcyoga because you like Yoga and McDonalds or you are an mc or other?

| It just seems a bit strange to me to jump into a forum with questions for the regulars but no introduction. Sometimes it is just a prelude to a whole lotta spam or other distractions. Maybe that is my mod-self talking...
Anyway, how about introducing yourself in some ways that won't influence our answers to your questions. And don't worry, this group is no easily influenced by any sort of peer pressure. |

| I'm just a guy that's interested in the yoga culture. I practice myself, but not for more than a year so far. I've also studied the major religions, but only surface deep.
Also, I've received some insightful responses through personal message local to this site. Please feel free to use that medium if you like. I will keep any messages private. It is possible that I will summarize all responses in a report post, but will not specify any sources.
I know this is a Bikram forum, but I would be curious to know if your primary (ie preferred or most practiced) style is Bikram. If not, which style works for you?

| McYogi - just for the record - you are in the Bikram section of a wider yoga forum. You might want to post under general yoga if you want a wider response. |

| I am hoping to focus on Bikram practitioners. Thanks to all that have responded so far.
