Is it a soreness like you ran for a long time and your legs are sore.... or is it a sharp pain??? sharp pain would indicate a technique issue like hyper extending rather than simply contracting your quad and leg muscles or improper alignment causing a twisting.

It is an achy pain. If i keep it still for a few minutes it starts to hurt and i have to move it..
I suppose it is a sharp achy pain hard to really explain.
I think i might be hyper extending.. But the teacher said i cant hyper extend in standing head to knee.. However ive done ashtanga for a few years off and on and they were very conscious of hyper extension. Im going to pay attention more attention to it.
So to lock the knee is to contract you quad and basically all other leg muscles in the leg not necessarily lock/hyper extend ?
This would make sense.
Thanks again.

Auzzinc, have you thought about maybe talking to a teacher who has some training in therapeutic yoga? He/she can watch you in the poses and help you see where you might be hyper extending or torquing your knee. The worry about knees is that they are easy to injure and hard to heal. Prevention in this case is worth the world.

good luck.

You can hyperextend you knees in almost any standing pose, especially standing head to knee.

I talked to one of the teachers and she suggested i take it easy and listen to my body.
I took her advice. It seems to be getting a little better but not all better.
Going to see how i feel in class today. THanks again.
Its a toss up for me cause if i stop doing bikram i start to get pain in my shoulder.. So kind of stuck at the time being.

If you are " locking " the knee then you probably are hyperextending the joint....this WILL cause a serious problem to the knee joint(it may take many years to do the damage but it will damage the knee).

Do NOT lock the knee....Yes a STRAIGHT knee.....just not locked....draw up the knee cap using the front thigh, press the femur bone back and the tibia forward....if you are not sure how....go to a few Iyengar classes...then back to Bikram....
A good Iyengar teacher will also help you with your shoulder also.
Good luck....keep sweating....
