Jyoga - it is simple. Not easy, but simple. Sit in a quiet place. Sit on a straight backed chair if you cannot sit cross legged. Close your eyes softly. Sit straight. Breathe. Let your thoughts float by like clouds. If you get caught up in one, let it go and start again. Ten minutes, twice a day, morning and night, preferably at the same time daily. If you can do that for a month, it will be time to find a teacher. A live teacher. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Another technique is to do everything that tourist mentioned, but in addition, focus on your breathing. Do not control it, simply watch it enter your lungs through your nose and go back out again. If thoughts intercede, don't repress them but also don't hang on to them. As tourist said, let them pass like clouds in the sky. I like to think of thoughts like bubbles in a glass of champagne that appear at the bottom out of nowhere and pass to the top and disappear again. There are many techniques. Most are simple. All are difficult and require practice. Most importantly: relax and have fun!

An additional technique is to inhale and silently say to yourself 50, exhale and silently say 49, inhale 48, exhale 47 etc. When you get down to 19, count only on exhales. If you lose count, simply go back to where you left off and continue. When you finish, simply sit there as long as you want and enjoy the quiet.

Not always, Malwika - if you suffer from depression you need a live teacher who has experience with that condition.

Namaste Jyoga,
I appreciate the techniques that tourist and jimg suggested you. Beside these you can try the following techniques.
Technique No. 1)
I sit in a comfortable posture keeping back & head straight, eyes closed (may be you can sit on a chair if you are not comfortable sitting on floor)
Focus on your breath
- maintain slow & deep breathing
- Engage your mind to follow abdominal movements with breath
- How the abdominal is bulging out while inhaling and sinking inside while exhaling.
- Continue this for as long as you can and when your mind is destructing then engage your mind to follow the technique- 2

Technique No. 2)
- Feel a touch of air at the tip of your nose as you inhale & exhale.
- Feel the air passing through the nostril as you inhale & exhale…
- Try to feel the difference between the air you inhale & exhale
- The air you inhale is little colder then the air you exhale. The air you exhale is little hot the air you inhale from the atmosphere. Try to feel this difference very consciously. I hope this will work for you.
Thank you

Namaste Malwika!
You need an experienced teacher Malwika to learn face to face to remove depression. I won't advice you to start Meditation by reading books to remove your depression.
A teacher really can help you...

I wish you good luck

Thanks all, I found some very good techniques for Meditation.

I suggest if you are new to Meditation then its good idea to listen classical Music while performing Meditation to concentrate.
