Subject: Yoga Prop Business

Hello All,

I am a resident of the San Diego, CA area and I am planning to launch a bamboo yoga prop business soon. Could you please give me your insights as to what props you wished existed or owned, or wished were cheaper or useful to enhance or facilitate your yoga practice? Your feedback regarding materials (bamboo, foam, etc.) will be also appreciated.

Namaste!

Bamboo blocks and benches would be nice however, people are gradually becoming aware that, although bamboo is environmentally friendly, many of the processes used to make it into consumer products are not. I would check that out very carefully before you begin so you have answers for people when they ask.

Interesting work! I wish you all the best. I would be interested in knowing what you yourself have in mind.

I can give comment only when I see a particular prop.

I would definitely look into all the environmental aspects of bamboo, especially before making it your big selling point. Maybe there are products made with friendlier processes. If you're going for the natural material angle, there are other things you could have like cork and wood. (Personally, while something like a bamboo bench might be nice, I don't like blocks made of hard materials. They are uncomfortable for some uses.)

aystam - they are supposed to be uncomfortable! I remind myself that BKS Iyengar originally used actual bricks, then I am thankful for nice, soft wood blocks.

This thread has brought back my spirit of innovation, improvisation and experimentation. I'm gonna make a duct tape yoga belt, blocks and maybe even a bolster.

Thank you for your insight. Definitely the process part is to be taken seriously. Do you have any comments regarding the design aspects of the props?
