Those of you who are parents will understand...and the rest of you will be nice enough to pretend you understand, right?

DS has a Pink Floyd tribute band and they are amazingly awesome. I was out last night until after 2 am at a gig - the trials and tribulations of a rock 'n roll mom.

Please feel free to indulge yourself in some serious nostalgia and have a listen at:

He is the bass player - the Roger Waters of the group. We were never serious fans either, though of course the music was around in our day. We're getting into it more as we go to his gigs and listening to it more. Apparently people who actually saw Floyd back then say they are sounding very much like the real thing. Cool stuff:-)

Don't worry Tourist, I spent the night in my DS's college dorm apartment the other day...it was totally awesome!!

My kids love Pink Floyd. It's funny, they act like its something new and can't believe it came from my generation. Children are so wierd, LOL!! If only they knew...

Well, tell your kids that my kid can play Dark Side of the Moon all the way through. They usually do it for their second set - my favourite!

that is cool.

around here, the grandparents are gaga over santa pictures. we're getting his picture with santa this friday. my mother is over the moon!

and, a friend of mine showed me the CUTEST gift she gave her kids. she saved all of their santa letters and then made scrap books of every santa letter for them. she made copies of their brothers'/sister's letters to include behind their own. OMG adorable! she showed me today. . .it's one of the gifts she's going to give them.

yesterday, i explained to hawk that santa is a holy person and that at this time of year we put up depictions of this holy person to inspire us to be more like him. i also told him that we tell inspiring stories at different times of the year to help us learn to be happy and help make others happy.

he's more interested in trying to crawl, but he loves it when anyone talks to or flirts with him.

Hawk is close in age to what my Floyd-son was. It is fun to have a baby one Christmas and a toddler the next. As we ate Christmas dinner that year he got fussy and was passed around the table like the casserole dishes for everybody to try to do the "magic" and make him happy. My dear SIL took his socks off, which helped, then they sort of peeled him off one layer of clothes at a time. Weird the stuff you remember, eh?

Well, here's my funny kid story this Thanksgiving, my Nephew, age 4 used my guest bathroom at Aunt J's house, not mine - this kid has 3 auntie's....I'm number 2 aunt. Anyhow, I was staying overnite at Aunt J's, long way from home. When I was getting ready for bed, I saw a big yoga roll in my room that DN was playing with...then when I went to use my guest bathroom, I saw this big mess in the sink like wax and some strange debris in it....no not beeswax. Then I noticed in the garbage can there were those little bamboo sticks - you know, the ones you soak in an Essential Oil and it diffuses the room, with burned ends on them, and my votive candle holder, which was well up out of reach from 4 years olds...so I thought, , that had little lavender buds floating solid in it. I was like WTF??? At first I said, "who would throw up in the sink and not wash it down"....but, then it came together very quickly when I realized small kid munchkins were in the house, I had no earthly idea he had done that...and was so grateful he didn't burn the house down. BUT, the funniest part of all about this...this little boy looks exactly and acts exactly like my brother. So, I knew he was smart about what he'd done. I can't tell you how many things we did at kids to protect each other from parents, or use for ammo against the other...yeah, the military family...sorda, It was deja`va and very strange...I thought I'd stepped back in time and had the future staring me all at once. I can't imagine what it will be like with my grandchildren, although...my kids have promised me its going to be a long while and no worries, LOL!!

For the record...me and Aunt J had drunk lots of vino and was very happy that evening, after everyone was gone and this was discovered. We had lots of laughs and have decided to withhold this information from DBrother. I'm sure he already knows this. My DD got him back...she kept his little Casino Royale James Bond car that he left in Aunt J's DD's room...where my DD slept and was hanging out. He probably misses his car, LOL!!!! The joys of natural justice, whoops, no this was KARMA, among siblings - and it don't matter what age they are....they never grow up.....heehehe

Yes, I know they would love to visit the far east. Actually, the Floyd stuff is a bit overwhelming for a restaurant, though they have done a smaller, acoustic gig, which might work. You really need him solo, http://www.myspace.com/kchingley.

The really good news is that he writes his final exam on Monday and will finally have his degree! Not a great job market to graduate into, but he can always play music to keep him in free beer...

well, all a young man needs really is good music and free beer.

this is my advice to most current grads--take whatever opportunities you can now. eg, one of my friend's sons is just graduating and plays football. he's been encouraged to do arena football by his coaches, and he's actually resisting. so, i told him--look, the job market ain't fab right now and you have your whole life to sit behind a desk. at least try out, for all of those who can't.

so, he's going to try out. it's decent money if he gets it, and he can still work a regular job because of how their season works.

it's a perfect time for your son to get gigs and hit the road and try things. he can go anywhere, he can do anything. sometimes, the best opportunity is having few options in the "Job market"--he can be creative . . .and who knows where that will go!

yeah. it's a good thing.

Hey....after last night.. nothing is too much! We had a Ska band in that not only started a congo line all around the restaurant, but the crowd started a mosh pit in front of the host stand! (where are the smileys now? I can't find them)

I'd say have fun for a few years then settle into a job. Some gigs can pay pretty decent... and heck, some places throw in a meal and the beer. At least he'll be fed! I've always said a restaurant job is the way to go in tough times- at least you will always have food in your belly!
