| Hello everyone,
I'm new here.I'm very interested in learning how to Meditate. With the stresses of 2 businesses and a family, it is very hard sometimes to stay focused. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice for me to start off. I really don't have a clue what I'm doing, but am very eager to learn..Thank you. |

| Advice:
1. Get a live teacher who is experienced.
2. Look at my youtube clips on the related subject.
3. EMail me for private instruction.

| I recently had an introduction to this tradition of Tibetan meditation: http://portal2.dharmaocean.org which I found to be simple, effective (from my small bit of experience) and gentle. You might wish to contact them and find a local teacher. |

| I think meditation is often both misunderstood and unduly complicated.
It is for these very reasons that Mirra, my meditation teacher, has created meditation snacks.
They are taught in the Purna Yoga curricula.
If I knew where you were located I might be able to direct you.

| I agree that the best meditation practices are very simple - notice I did not say "easy". |

| Have a general question about when you all meditate. Does everyone meditate on a set time like top of the hour, bottom of the hour or just random? Thanks.. |

| Hi Ritz,
Meditation takes time, but it is not so hard when you adopt the right attitude. My advice is to start with a simple diaphragmatic breathing technique and learn to focus on the breath. And if you want to get a teacher or some instructions, I recommend Vipassana and mindfulness-based meditation. Those are, in my mind, the purest and most natural forms of meditation.
And to stanc: I try to be in meditation throughout the day. It's funny how other, less intelligent animals, are able to live in total awareness while we, the smart humans, tend to drive ourselves from one goal/mantra to the next. |

Location: Somewhere in the Mountains of Western NC | Another simple method is to sit in lotus position, with eyes closed, and hold balls of cotton in both hands. One of my TCMD's gave this prescription out to many of her patients. I liked it and passed it on over the years. It really works for beginners. Imagine yourself floating on a cloud...of cotton, |
