| Hi all,
I need advice on what to do with a new student. She says that she had Dequervains when she was a teen. Now is her thirties, she has very limited mobility in her wrists. She cannot place her hands under her shoulders when on her hands and knees. She must place them quite far forward of the body not to feel pain.
She was practicing yoga on her own from a video for a couple of years and is just getting back into yoga after a break of several years.
According to her, she has very short tendons in both wrists and they cause her a lot of pain.
I have just begun working with her, so at this point, I have just been evaluating what her mobility is like and what she can and cannot comfortably do.
Any thoughts on things I should or shouldnt do with her?
Thanks heaps! |

Good. Continue working on her wrists study for a sufficient time.

| Things...
The wrist series, modification in Adho Mukha, Bakasana, Phalankasana, Ashtanga Namaskar, Bhujangasana, Sarpasana, Bakasana, and avoiding Vasisthasana, Purvottasana, and Adho Mukha Vrksasana.
Consider advising the student or studio to buy a pair of gripitz blocks.
Changes in the student's diet and lifestyle would also be warranted as would meditation and working with light.

| Hi All,
Thanks for your replies. I love those Gripit blocks! I will have to get a pair of those.
How do you all feel about the use of athletic tape on the wrists?
I think it was Purna who mentioned light therapy...could you explain in more detail? The student in question is a vegan and a Vipassana meditator who sits for two hours daily and does a course every three months. |

| Why not skip all postures that involve the wrists? Over 700 yoga asanas - not all involve putting weight on the wrists. If you aren't trained as a yoga therapist - why not just skip them?
