Subject: Bulky Build

Hi Everyone!

I am new to this forum and pilates, just started with the Winsor DVD's. My question is this:
I fell into the trap that lifting weights won't make women bulky, however that is precisely what it did to me. I was wondering if I cut out the weights and started pilates would I lean out my bulky muscles?? I am only 5'1" and the muscles make me look chubby.

Thank you for any helpful answers you have!!

PS- Love this site!

Sandy - you need to look for a good instructor. Pilates was intended to be learned one on one. Like yoga, pilates can lengthen muscles and lead to a longer, less "bulky" body. But my suspicion is that, done without good instruction, you may have the same problems with Pilates as you did with weights. I don't know a lot about Pilates and I don't think we have any teachers here regularly at the moment. Sorry you couldn't get an expert opinion right away. Do keep checking in though, because there are folks who know about such things who appear from time to time. Good luck!

Thank you for your help!!

My diet may be part of it, I will have to pay a little more attention to that area! I will also loook into pilates classes at my local gym to make sure I am doing it correctly!

Thanks again!

i would suggest trying a studio first and possibly taking a private and workin gon the reformer. It will definitely open your eyes and really help you understand the movements as well as your body. working out incorrectly like anything else can have adverse effects and you can possibly hurt yourself or make an injury worse.

you can also look at some books to help you understand the movements a bit better. Brooke Siler has some decent books.

also look at what yo're eating like someone else had mentioned. good luck!
