Subject: Second Class

Well as the subject hints, I had my second class yesterday. It was a little different, this class we focused more on upper body strength and trunk twists and bridges.

We did Downward Facing Dog to Plank to Cobra, with some slow specialized pushups in between. Ordinarily I can maybe up to 80 pushups at a time, but these pushups targetted some areas I guess I hadn't used yet, and my shoulders are tired. Doing the bridges felt like I was hurting (but not harming) the tissues arround my clavicles (collar bone).

My upper back is still a little stiff from yesterday's class. Because we did very little groin stretching and hip opening (we did some light-weight hip opening stuff), I am going to be practicing Upavistha Konasana (Seated Angle Pose) today...but lightly, because I have karate tonight, and I have found that if I stretch too aggressively earlier in the day, I can't loosen up later that night when I really need it.

What are "bridges" and why is your upper back stiff?

You lay on your back, clasp your hands behind your back and arch your back up tucking your shoulds under you.

Back is stiff from the strength training of the down faced dog to plank to cobra sequences.

I may not be as presumptive as others when interacting with a student who's just taken his second class.

Since Scott said "bridges" I was curious about the plural and what that might encompass. As it turns out it does seem as though he's referencing Setu Bandha.
