| Ive been experimenting with jumping into it and find it is much easier to do on an exhalation, how does anyone feel about this? |

| Hi Rachel,
I can't jump into this pose but 'officially' it's on the inhale.

| Well I couldnt until yesterday, I have just had all the reformers taken out of one end of my yoga studio, and was christianing the new space, with handstands etc, I just gave it a try and did it straight away, i practiced this morning and can do it pretty good now but I have much more control on the exhalation than inhalation. Gonna practice some more see if I can get it on inhalation |

Location: London, England | Hi Raquel,
The way I see it, using the exhale is perhaps easier because it is usually an exhale that we use with explosive movements such as lifting-inhaling tends to tighten muscles up, which then means they cannot move bones, only hold them in place-try taking a sharp breath in to demonstrate this-your whole body tenses.
So perhaps try breathing in with less force and more control, so that this phenomenon doesn't take place. There are a couple of other things, such as a sharp exhale tending to double up the torso, which can make the actual posture much easier to attain, although it is less skilful than trying to keep the front of the torso long (which then progresses into lifting into a handstand).

| Yes I think it must be my pilates training that has got me into the habit of using the power of the exhalation, to support the strongest part of exercise.
However after practicing both ways (lots of times this morning) I can do it with either now, but crossing my legs is a different story any tips for that? |

Location: London, England | Hi Raquel,
Drink so much water that you have to cross your legs to stop yourself peeing I usually find that helps .

| Hi all.
I can't do the jump, or the pose properly yet. I don't seem to get enough height off the mat to be able to cross my legs without picking up the mat between my toes/feet! Then I find it hard to get back down smoothly (without falling backwards). Any suggestions?

| Hey people.
I always think of the game leap frog.
When I jump into it, I think of squeezing the shoulders with the legs and lifting through the chin.
Then exhale lower chin down. I practice it with pointed crossed feet pointed toes. That is my preference. Probably not the mysore way.. |
