A Great Moral Force

'Twas a thief said the last kind word to Christ. Christ took the kindness and forgave the thief. -Robert Browning

We will all suffer at the hands or tongues of others in our lives. We will be emotionally robbed, battered and victimized. We will not get what we need from a person we were counting on; we will get too much of what we don't need from those we are dependent upon. But just like Christ with the thief who was hanging next to him on the cross, we are all in this together. We have no idea where kindness may come from. It could be from our equivalent of the thief, the person we've deemed as the one who has sinned against us the most. And, unlike Christ, none of us is blameless; none of us will emerge with perfectly clean hands. We too will do our share of damage to those we supposedly love. We are, after all, human. And although it is our fate to be born with all the flaws and weaknesses of our kind, it is our destiny to learn from them that all can be washed away in a moment of forgiveness by the power of kindness.
