Yoga -> Ashtanga Yoga | Message format |

I taught my third workshop over the weekend. All last week, I was thinking.. I hope people show up. For background purposes: This is a new studio that teaches gentle hatha yoga. My first teacher owns the studio and he invited me to teach at his studio and start with a workshop to create interest. I went to a couple of classes at the studio during the week to see what they usually teach and to be seen too. I think this helped convince a couple of student to come who wouldn't have come anyway. They teach a very static blend of yoga there. Lots of core work in supta position. Lots of visualization and narration. Totally different than the way I teach! I could learn a lot from this place. I ended up with 6 students and my teacher. It was perfect. I lined up two rows, I turned the AC off. I decided to use David Swenson Short Form as a guide for the workshop. (with a few modifications) The response was so positive. I will start teaching there (once a week). I think what made this really special was teaching my first teacher. At the end of the workshop, he said that something special happened to him in savasana and that he felt the connection between teaching and students and the student teaching the teacher. I think he was crying a little bit. It almost made me start crying too. I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience: Teaching their teachers?

Make sure you get a feedback from that teacher for your own good.

It was funny "correcting" him the ashtanga way. He really enjoyed it. He is in his 50s, but his practice is stronger than ever. This could end up being a really good thing for both of us. I will teach a more advanced asana classes at his studio and he (his new students) can teach me to be more narrative. They also are a very musical studio. It seems like all of this student teachers play instruments and sing. One of the teachers plays the flute beautifully.

Location: London, England | Me too And I think you can consider that the teacher is asking you to teach at his centre pretty good feedback all by itself-the best. Nick Edited by Nick 2007-08-06 11:08 AM

Me? Noo.. I only get offended by pregnant bikram women in daisy dukes. Didn't you read the other thread last week? Which disappeared last week.. hmmm.. Moving on. I'm also going to another studio tonight. I'm trying to get more classes and I'am suppose to take a class or two to get a feeling for the environment. Then, I'm suppose to two a demo. (which I have never done in front of management) Eric is thinking about going full-time....

I'm seriously considering it. Having healthcare, benefits, disposible income, etc.. is hard to live without. But if I don't try it, I might regret it. I also studied art in college, so I might be able to teach drawing or painting on the side too. Eric

Hey Tampa: I did not properly understand your post and I suggested getting feedback from your Teacher whom you taught. But, from second reading, my comment is wrong. But, even then, you might like to get some feedback from him. Also, about going full time in yoga teaching, for making income, I already told you in the past, to be careful. TampaEric - 2007-08-06 10:52 AM Thanks Jonnie. I was asking Neel what he meant about feedback. Sorry for the confusion, Eric
