Subject: Pins and needles

Hi all

It's me again. Sorry to bother but I experienced a strange sensation during practice this morning and just wanted to check with yous if it was "normal". Everything was going fine until I started forward bends. After about one minute I felt a tingling sensation in my feet, mainly the soles. After a few more seconds of holding the posture, it got all pins and needles. This was the first time I ever experience anything like it.

I didn't feel pain and the posture itself is really comfortable for me as I'm quite flexible in my hamstrings but I just want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong.

Thanks a million in advance for all your advice.

Namaste

Hi Jessica,
Wouldn't worry too much if it happened just once-if it starts to be a constant feature, then you are irritating the sciatic nerve, which supplies the back of the leg and foot-this can happen anywhere along it's length, but most commonly it's a lumbar, sacroliac, piriformis syndrome, or compression in the knee. So when you do a forward bend, you stretch an already irriated nerve, leading to sensations of the type you have experienced.
