Hi all, thought I would introduce myself, I am a home Ashtanga practitioner and as I have been getting a little lonely I thought I would look for some online Ashtangis. Look forward to talking to you all

But then I will be stuck in my yoga room forever, I will be a tragic yoga related fatality, they will find me in weeks to come starved to near death my final words being "at least I bound in supta kurmasana"

Hi Sam,
Not the door handle on your side, you numpty Another good one is to get an extension lead, cut one end off and strip the wires, connect that up to the door handle on your side, and with a bit of luck it will conduct through. You could probably put a variable resistor on it so you could take the wattage down. Might have to market that-'yoga aids.' Also saves on buying hair gel for the kids.

Take care
Nick

hi there
I'm new here as well. I have been learning ashtanga yoga for just over a year now and currently practice twice a week. Would like to practice more but it's not easy at home with so many distractions.

Variable resistance? wattage? Im not sure I cope with all that technical stuff, I think I shall just lock them in the understairs cupboard, never did Harry Potter any harm

hi Skelly & Tourist
I only have the one who's seventeen and been known to attend the odd yoga class with me. Aren't kids delightful but they do tend to take up a lot of time an energy especially when they are young, but that time goes so quickly, not much help for your yoga practice though

Hi Glenda,
I could never do headstand with my son around-he just pushed me over-great seeing your dad topple over-handstands definitely out of the question

Hi Neel, thats really kind I shall email you later, Neil, I have 3 children aged 2, 5 (today actually) and 10. The 10 year old has ADHD and Aspergers syndrome which makes him just about as hard work as the littel ones but he like the other two is utterly adorable. Of course the three of them can be a little distracting, David Williams once said at a workshop that if any ever disturbs his practice he rolls up his mat and leaves yoga for the day. Lets just say if I did that I wouldnt have practiced since 1996. Anyway the one sure fire way to hold a really long back bend is to let a 2 year girl crawl under you and spend a good few minutes trying to cajole her into moving so as to not flatten her !!!!

Hi Sam!

You could be describing my experience! I have 3 kids too (3, 5, 8 ) and have a mostly-home practice. And yes, my 3yo uses me as play equipment too. I've learned to deal with some of the distractions (if nothing else, it's a great exercise in non-attachment), and am just now reaching a point when I can occasionally get in a really good stint. The littlest goes to preschool now, too, so those days are brilliant.

Good luck with the practice,

Lisa

Thank you for the welcome!

If my children *were* emoticons, they would be:

and

from oldest to youngest (the worrier, the cool dude and the devil). (the little guy isn't really evil, as such, but devilish, -yes)

off to my home practice now!

My kids are

(16)

and

(14)

Luckily as teenagers they don't get up until late on school hols, though I do have to finish early on school mornings to lever them out of bed. The eldest would like to do some yoga (worried about his waistline) but can't get himself moving early enough. Any tips?

Sam I've had no experience with aspergers syndrome and very limited knowledge but we do have ADHD in our family my son was borderline hyperactive I was lucky to able to manage it with a sensible diet and a very regular routine. Don't know if it helped him but at least I felt in control. He seems to have grown out of it and is very laid back now . You need a lot of energy to keep up I wonder how you manage with three.

Hello Llewllyn. you've had more luck with the emoticons than I have. I wanted to send a smiley one to tourist when she said hello but it just seemed to turn out wrong.

Hello Ian . my son goes to yoga sometimes he's not been recently as he doesnt get up early enough to go to class which doesn't start to ten by the way.Finding the incentive to get them moving is not easy.

My kids (3,6,9,15) tend to leave me alone, but they're in bed when I practice, for the most part.

These forums are a great place to see what other Yogis/Yoginis are thinking and are brave enough to post.
