Will it help with inversions? Yes, if the neck position is less than optimal. Just to add something that might be of interest, I saw a picture once of a man who had just had a pistol go off behind him, so that they could take a photo of his reaction-his head craned forwards, hyper-extension at the sub-occiput-this is called 'the frightened cat response.' you will see a cat do exactly the same thing-the action allows the cat to sink low, but still look ahead of it-it's a response to danger. Maybe that gives a clue as to why you feel fear in inversions? I know, it's a long shot
I read about this in a book called 'Anatomy Trains' by Thomas Myers-I convinced Savasana to get it. It's a brilliant book for yoga people-I think that you would be particularly interested in it-I wouldn't be surprised if there was a copy hanging around with your name on it
