Subject: Music for Yoga?

Greetings friends old and new,

We are members of the experimental band, The Abstract Sound. The Abstract Sound is a family of diverse musicians who compose and improvise music for albums, films, meditation, and yoga. Our music emphasizes live instruments, organic transitions and sonic emotional journeys. We are working on a full length yoga album entitled “Music for Space Travel” and we feel it is essential to seek the input of instructors and practitioners regarding their experiences with music and what will enhance their practice.
To aid in the collection of input from a diverse group of yogis, we designed a short survey you can take at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=33503411627 . We also welcome any comments regarding the pacing of your class and your experiences with music and yoga. Most of all, if you had the chance to suggest one thing to a group of musicians before making an album for your class, what would it be? You can email your comments to abstractsound@gmail.com. Your comments will help us make “Music for Space Travel” feel more natural and organic to your yoga practice and the practice of your students.
At its most basic level, our philosophy is that music should accompany the process of yoga like a well-crafted film score or a symphony. At the heart of “Music for Space Travel” lies the concept of dividing the yoga practice up into fundamental stages and accompanying each stage with music that moves seamlessly from one point to the next. This organic flow through an entire session will energize the listener while turning their awareness constantly inward by eliminating distractions.
Thank you so very much for spending your time with us in this collective artistic pursuit. If you know of others we should hear from please feel free to forward this e-mail to them. We look forward to reading your comments and making this album the best it can be. Best wishes…

Sincerely,

Jay Hastings & Brandon Roberts - The Abstract Sound
