Subject: THREAD OF YOGA new DVD on eBay

Thread of Yoga 2 disc set
Directed by Eric Wils
Assistant: Dolma Lhakpa
Synopsis

A baba is doing austerities. He has been sitting in the same circle of fire for a month, the scorching himalayan sun beating on him day after day. Yogis ponder the meaning of life as dead bodies rot in The Ganges. Ether sticks to their mortal remains….The temperature is a boiling 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
It is just another day. The people of the land perform asanas (physical postures) and kriyas (acts of internal purification of organs). Children play in the water. Gurus give satsang (lectures), while the elephants give their blessings knowing the world was made too small for them.
And then, as the sacred India dives deeper and deeper into the recesses of the mind, it forces all to realize that there is nothing: this is the end!?!…The world of manifestations is just an illusion...great field recording that will shed some light on a complex topic...

I purchased the video. Pretty interesting. It's filmed in India in Mysore, etc. They go to some yoga classes that are attended by locals. The classes are both indoors and outdoors. The outdoors classes remind you of the Chinese doing chi-kung or tai-chi in public.

There are some yoga experts that are interviewed. Then there are some old leather skinned yogis that are filmed doing asanas outdoors.

One thing I was surprised to see was that the attention to detail in doing the postures was very individual. Some of them looked like they weren't very interested or trying. Yet they gathered to do the asanas in these studios. It is kind of enlightening to see footage of authentic yoga instruction being given in India and to compare it with our (our maybe just my) impression of what yoga should look like.

I highly recommend it. But it is not an instructional video. It is really four hours of "hanging out" in the yoga culture of India.

Joe

P.S. There is some very graphic stuff on this video having to do with death. I suppose it has to do with reincarnation and how the body goes back to the earth without being buried, etc. Be careful of that stuff.
