I read an anecodote about Ramakrishna.  He had a devotee named Surendra who drank quite a bit.  This man's drinking was a long-standing problem and a great embarassment to other devotees. The other devotees took him to Ramakrishna assuming that Ramakrishna would tell him to give up the bottle. Instead, Ramakrishna told him to offer his wine first to Kali [the Divine Mother] and then to drink it as her prasad. "Only you must not get drunk. Don't let your footsteps stumble or your mind wander." Apparently, this advice served its purpose well, and Surendra no longer drank to excess.

Have any of you heard of yoga being applied in a way similar this application of bhakti?

No, but I might take up the practice myself around my cookie addiction. Of course, that won't guarantee that someone else in the house might raid the altar...

As long as they take the time to offer the cookie to Kali and then treat it as prasad, I suppose that there's no harm done.
