I have a book with title : Yoga Darsana of B.K.S. Iyengar, London 1970-1974, by Dona Holleman. It is almost new. It is Vol I - Asana. If anyone is interested, PM me. Pay me what you wish. Namaste.

Dear Brother Neel --

This seems like a very unusual book. Why is the setting London, for example, and what are the contents?

BG - I am now the owner of said book. It is a full transcription of teaching BKS did in London. VERY interesting, very dense and full of Iyengarisms. Hard to pick out useful instructions but I see things my teachers still use. One small piece that I love is an instruction in pascimottanasana, for those who hold the sides of the feet, to bring thre thumbs around to the sole of the foot as opposed to grasping the foot between fingers and thumb. It brings a delightful softness to the forearm.

Hi Tourist, how you been? I don't think I've seen you in a couple of days. I think you mentioned the thumb position on another thread, and I was sure to try it. It is good, and of course my forearms need to be able to relax. Thanks for the tip.

Hi shelly - I am trying to keep my posts to a minimum as I have had a huge inflammation of my right shoulder that is irritated by typing. I already am mousing left handed and not when I type, I tip the screen of my laptop back and stand up Glad you liked the tip

I'm not sure I follow the instruction you mention.  Are the thumbs going around the outside or inside edge of the foot, and is this done in the full pose (chest to thighs) or in the preparatory pose?

Yes, the thumbs go around the outside edge of the foot, alongside the index fingers. For some this will be the final pose, but for others, they will go deeper and have one hand holding the other wrist.

Okay, I don't get this because I'm a gibbon.

Anyone remember the 1970's comedy show "The Goodies"?  If so, do you remember their spoof on pop dance songs called "The Funky Gibbon"?

"Do, Do, Do the Funky Gibbon

The Funky Gibbon

We are here to show you how!"

The Goodies British comedy at it's best!

Bill Odie is a professional bird watcher (of the feathered variety) now.

Speaking of Dona Holleman, she had a particular day of the week for doing 108 drop backs.  Does anybody know what sequence she'd use on that day's practice?  I'm still trying to figure out how to fit 25 minutes of drop backs into an integrated sequence -- it's not in Light on Yoga.

If you are strong - particularly in the abs - you can work on drop-backs. When I was doing it I warmed up with handstand against the wall & standing & lying down twists intermixed with hero pose (thigh stretch). Walking up & down the wall doing wheel pose is good, too. Right now my wrists aren't strong enough. It's great if you have access to a gymnastics mat. Also, you can try dropping part-way, such as to a sofa that is secured to the wall. Close with shoulderstand & plough, &/or legs up the wall pose. I use fish too but of course that's not in the BKS classes usually.
