I'm wondering if anyone know of an online site where I could buy herbs that I can't grow at home.  Would you not recommend buying them this way, or not?

Thanks!

Samantha

Hi Samantha, growing your own is of course always best, but sometimes it's just not possible to get Everything you may want when you want it. For others that I don't have local sources for I typically order mine from Mountain Rose Herbs http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/ if I need smaller amounts. But if I know that I have planned to use large amounts of something, I'll use Pacific Botanicals as my supplier. http://www.pacificbotanicals.com/ They don't have online ordering, and you have to order by the pound min., but their quality is wonderful and the people there are always nice to work with. Both have high standards and reasonable prices, so it just depends on what I'm doing as to which I'll go with. Hope this helps.

Hey Sam

Which herbs in particular are you looking for??

I am going to start a hydroponic garden this fall. I'm tired of not being able to get items such as good tomatoes and basil year round. Then if you want them, they are soooo expensive. There are all kinds of possibilities and you can grow just about everything. I had a guy who specialized in this type of gardening show me the ropes, its really cool.

lots and lots of choices, big selection.

the catalog alone is worth getting, lots of heirloom variety.

My favorite basil is a Holy Basil from India, it kept the bugs away and has a chewing gum kind of flavor, and it smells good. There are also bulk quantities for some varieties available with some pretty good pricing, that's how i got my sage section of my garden started, and sage comes back year after year in Pennsylvania [well, at least in my garden].

good luck!

Cyndi - 2006-07-12 10:52 AM Hey Sam Which herbs in particular are you looking for??

I'm looking for herbs that help with chronic bronchitis.  I just ordered a book about herbs that has a section on bronchitis so once I read it, I'd like to start by buying the herbs until I can get an herb garden going.  I guess it's a little too late to start one here in Jersey now.

Thanks everyone for the help

Samantha
