| reviews, comments...etc..
Im considering buying the book, and as im sure its good, it doesnt appear to be a "YOGA" book ( as in how to do assanas and such...mind u i could be wrong ) it seems more philisophical, which is cool...
Just curious...
Any comments are indeed welcomed.. |

| Did you mean BKS's new one, "Light on Life"? I've heard that it's very good, similar in style to the "Tree of Yoga". I'm waiting for the paperback (I know, I'm cheap).
"Light On Yoga" is indispensible, of course, regardless of the style you practice.

| no, i meant what i said. I eventually want to get both books, but for some reason barnes and noble doesnt have light on life yet...and I think the books probably build upon each other in some sort of strange subliminal way....
So I figure start with the foundation...and grow from there... |

| Hey Sideshow,
Light on Yoga is the how-to manual for asanas--Light on Life is the how-to manual for the spiritual journey through hatha yoga.
Both fantastic.

| Definitely start with Light on Yoga. It is the yoga bible. Bear in mind that BKS now teaches some poses slightly differently from how they are shown in the book but the philosophy in the introduction is wonderful. |

Location: A Blue State | I always wonder whether Guruji's evolving attitude toward
how some poses should be done/sequenced is a result of
his growing understanding of yoga or whether it is because
yoga is different for people of different ages. I relate very
well to Light on Yoga, and it was written by a man
my age. At the same time, I do find that what I learn in class
now is, at points, an improvement over what Guruji wrote
40 years ago.

| Dear Brother BayGuy:
Performing a yoga pose using Body is NO doubt a body + mind action which includes learning, research, doing, and relearning. This is a part of Material Universe as apart from the Soul. Anything in the material world is infinite and never completes. Thus, no matter how much research and learning is done in the material universe (prakriti), there is always more to find.
Guruji's evolvement is due to a) the above fact b) his sincere interest in learning and finding the new ways of doing poses, and learning new things related to them. In Guruji's particular case, it is NOT affected much by Age, he is still young. However, in some other cases, which I prefer not to mention, the age has played a role.
How do I know this?= Please do not ask.
Peace

Location: A Blue State | Dear Brother Neel,
Thank you. I recall a comment that Guruji made in reference to his
practice of asana: "When I was young, I played. Now, I stay." (meaning
stay in the poses for some time). There is no doubt that Guruji's
practice of asana has continued to *improve* over the years.
Will you see Guruji while he is in Washington today and tomorrow?

| Dear Brother BG:
I think he is already in Wash Dc. One of my students wanted to purchase tickets for herself plus myself, but they were sold out. In my case, I prefer to see him in Pune when I go each year. That time, he is not crowded and giving autograph. Also, I can enjoy chai at his place with Geetaji and Prashantji.
Yes, you are correct. Guruji got into Yoga only because there was no other choice for him to make living. He was taught also kind of against his will at the beginning. Later, he developed a dedication to it, mainly due to possibility of making living and also due to therapeutic success. And, then he did an extraordinary job of making use of such an opportunity to advance his yoga practice and understanding of Yoga Asanas. The amount of dedication he put into Asana practice is totally exceptional, almost unique in the world. However, in my opinion, his real success comes from the blessings from Shree Hanumanji, his deity.
Namaste

| I have tickets to see BKS tonight. I am thrilled! We have all been talking about it and waiting for his visit for months now. I hope to visit pune some day, but for people who cannot make it or don't want to make the trip, this is an excellent opportunity to pay tribute to a man who has touched so many of our lives. I'll report back tomorrow...
And Light on Life is amazing so far... |
