I always understood it to be a good old fashioned anglo saxon word - plain and simple. But I like the stories!

Actually the etymology of the word isn't as important as it's current usage.  For that matter my friends also have a number of other sexual phrases that they use in a denigrading manner.

i thought 'pluck yew' was really interesting.

i think that modern usage is interesting--but since it started out as being derrogatory, and perhaps not even sexual in origin (unless i don't get the sexual reference in pluck yew)--then it seems that the term is meant to be used that way.

hmm. which relates to what you said somehow, but i can't remember.
