Subject: prolonged periods!

Normally my periods have lasted between 5 - 7 days but for the last 2 months they have lasted up to 14 days, and i am perplexed. I started Moksha yoga in late February and have been constant with my practice, although I have cut down to 1 or 2 classes per week as opposed to 4 classes per week. The good news is that I don't really experience cramping anymore, but WHY these long bleeding cycles?? Do you think it is connected to yoga and cleansing effects?

Have you been under alot of stress lately? has you diet changed? I know that I had a history of wierd periods and my yoga wasnt connected to it. but mine were very painful and the only fix was the pill. If this strangness contiunes i'd see a doc.

Liz - What sort of practice is Moksa? Is it flow/vinyasa? Do they encourage a specialized practice during mentruation? I suppose one could say it was a sort of "cleansing" but after a point it should stop. May I ask how old you are?

Menstrual changes not part of your 'business as usual' pattern should always be checked out with the doctor as the causes can range from 'one of those things' to a whole host of conditions that need medical intervention, though the majority of reported issues are due to stress (45% if memory serves). You may find the following links useful. they are taken from the NHS Direct web-site in the UK so the content is reliable.
