Hey guys, this is Babsi, back in Germany. New ID new luck, but I don't like my Iyengar teacher here, what should I do??; I can't drive 45 min to Munich every time I want to practice and they sell course tickets, like every mon.... or tue.... Sh... I want to stick with Iyengar and not one of the "I do not knwo how to call it, I feel my way into my class and design it this way...." classes they offer here. I'm leaning into the desperate mood here, I don't think I'm self-controled, nontheless experienced enough to do this on my own??? Give me some advice please!!! yours Babsi

Babsi Ask everyone you know if they know an Iyengar instructor in your area. There is probably someone closer to you that can help you. You just have to find him/her. If you ask everyone you know and their friends and go to places yoga people hang out (healthfood stores, alternative bookstores, other yoga/dance/martial arts schools) and ask them, you will find someone who knows someone in your area. You might even ask your teacher if he/she could recommend another teacher. Ask other students in the class. Go to some Iyengar websites and see if they have links to studios in Germany. Good luck. Tchau!

Meine Freunde Babsi, Seems like your reasons to not stay with your unlikable teacher have cornered you into staying. Let's get creative here and look at why you don't like him/her. I've run into that often myself and when I thought about it, my reasons were usually based on me comparing the person with somebody I REALLY liked and not giving the new one the respect I should have of being an individual with good points. What 'cha think?

Hey Babsi, I don't know where you are located in Germany, but here are some places listed on yogafinder. I don't even know if there are Iyengar studios, but maybe you'll find something... http://yogafinder.com/yogaarea.cfm?yogacountry=Germany

Expert Yogi Posts: 2479 Location: A Blue State | I don't mean to be obnoxious, but I can't read German and I haven't a clue what these last two posts say. Terrible, really, considering that I am of Swiss German ancestry and that my grandfather used to write to my father using a smattering of the German that he learned while growing up.

And all the German I know is what I"ve picked up from "rock me amadeus", "der komissar", and "99 luftballons". Hmm, probably none of that i here, and vice versa.

Bay Guy, very sorry to tell you that the swissies may think they're speaking german - but in my eyes it isn't anywhere near. As a northerner I hardly can understand the babble which is "spoken" in Babsi's area around Munich. Anyway we didn't try to hijack this thread, neither did you miss any important information. It was only about our newest plans to invade the USA

Expert Yogi Posts: 2479 Location: A Blue State | Oh, piffle! I can recall when my father was speaking Hoch Deutsch to our Swiss cousins some years ago. He told me that our cousin was very annoyed to have to speak in a nonsense language, and that what he wanted was Swizter Deutsch. I have friends who feel the same way when they have to speak to a Californian or a Southerner in the US. And I've been regailing my children with W imitations since the first debate ("Wadn't no nu*que*ler weapons, shucky dern!"). But I was brought up short this spring when a fellow I had just met told me that, while I had lost a Kentuckian's drawl, I still had the deliberation in my choice of words that is the hallmark of people from that particular region of our fine land. Yes sir, we's a Big Dog, Good Buddy.

Bat Guy, as strange as it may sound, after learning "oxford english" back in school, for me it's way more easy to follow american movies than english movies. Ever tried to understand welsh, irish, scottish accents or that cockney? To make matters worse here in SA they sometimes show "Orstralian" and Kiwi film productions in TV. I can't get a single word of that

Now he's Bat Guy? How many alter egos can one transplanted Kentuckian have?

I think when the commissioner needs Bat Guy, a big Om is flashed into the sky...and Afroyogi says, "Quick Bat Guy, to the Ashram!" (om.gif) Attachments ---------------- om.gif (3KB - 361 downloads)

Expert Yogi Posts: 2479 Location: A Blue State | And I slide down the pole, into my yoga shorts, hop on my flying yoga mat, and take off in a burst of flames. In the background, the sound track chants "Hare hare Mahadeva Shambu, kashi vishwanatha Gange"....I dispense good karma at the Ashram, reducing the Penguin to Kurmasana and forcing the Riddler to recite the Gita. Grusse, Babsi. Mein Deutsch is zehr wenig gewesen, aber ich lese etwas noch. Jetz, auf English... If you didn't feel comfortable asking your teacher about other Iyengar teachers, ask him/her with whom s/he studied in the area. I would also examine why you don't like the teacher. I speak from experience that sometimes the differences or personality conflicts are insurmountable, but sometimes it's just the differences that can help you learn and overcome obsticles in your practice. Welcome back.
