These days, meditation is often used for relaxation and stress reduction, any practice of meditation. It is easy and inexpensive and it requires no special equipment. And you can meditate wherever you are, whether you go for a walk, on the bus and waited for the doctor's office or even in the middle of a difficult business meetings are.

I am considering doing a ten-day silent meditation retreat. Has anyone here tried something like that?

During your first time of meditating, your will realize how messy your mind is and how important meditation would act in your mind and body. One of the most helpful techniques in concentrating is to stare on a lighted candle. It would slowly block out all of the other thoughts in the mind keeping it away from distractions.

By meditation what do you mean? Are you referring to Dharana, Smarana, Dhyana, Chintana, Pratyahara, Kalpana, Pranayama, Vairagya or something else.
