True, I guess I do get some caffeine. I guess it is a bit like smoking low tar cigarettes. I do enjoy the decaf and I would have a hard time stopping | |||

Well I was going to gradually come off caffiene but I went to the Dr today and found that a lot of my nerve pain could be coming from tension in upper back; caffeine cause tension (in me atleast). So today I am officially stopping cold turkey. Too many signs have been telling me that I need to stop and my body is too acidic....alkalinity here I come, cooler body, more flexable, calmer mind. | |||

Gradual is a good idea because you may end up having to take pain killers for the nasty headache you'll get by stopping all at once. And a lot of painkillers have caffeine in them! When I had to do this recently I cut the regular coffee by about a third for a week, 2 thirds the next week etc. That was pretty painless for me. Of course, I went right back to it as soon as I could. | ||

Expert Yogi Posts: 5098 Location: Somewhere in the Mountains of Western NC | Drink some Yerba Mate tea from South America. It's very good for quitting coffee. Personally, I quit drinking coffee as an addiction over 10 years ago. Today I drink coffee in moderation and am fine with it. I mix it up. I drink green tea some days, herbal something another day, Indian Chai on really cold winter days, and some days when I'm doing paperwork all day....it's a COFFEE/EXPRESSO day 4-sure, LOL!!! Coffee helps me concentrate when I'm working with numbers and paperwork for some strange reason. I don't mind it....and as long as I only have 2 cups a day....maybe 3 if I'm cheating, which sometimes I do. BTW, I filled in lots of those questions, | ||

I don't like going cold turkey but there are too many warning signs for me at the moment. I will replace my coffee drinking for a while with warm lemon water and coffee herbal alternatives. I will probably go on a rawfood binge for a while we will see. I need some healing. | |||

I agree a gradual withdrawal is a better idea than cold turkey. Cold turkey is likely to result in some nasty headaches, wHy inflict that on yourself? I'd almost guess it's a little easier on your system to do it gradually. In college I was in the habit of drinking a lot of caffeinated soda during the week and not on the weekends. Always had headaches on the weekends, tok me a little bit to figure out what the problem was. Once I did I quit, that was like 25 years ago. Every once in awhile I slip and have a cup of tea or accidentally drink one of those beverages they spike with caffeine when I don't read the label. I am so sorry the next day when I do that. | |||

Expert Yogi Posts: 8442 | aystam - it was surprising to me that a one cup (ok, a big cup!) a day could cause the headaches, but that is certainly the case for me. I had to have a couple of medical tests that involved fasting and that is when it would show up. Maybe if I was able to eat and thus also keep my blood sugar level, it wouldn't be such a big deal, but I don't plan on experimenting to find out! Missing my lunchtime cup of black tea doesn't seem to be a bother at all. I drink it at work but seldom at home on the weekends. | ||

i go through about 1lb of strong black coffee a week, and i've been that way for about 16years now. doesn't seem to have done me much harm, although i don't sleep as much as some people. | |||

Drinking plenty of water and alkalizing myself helps is helping. Cleanse time!!! Finally I took the intiative! | |||

I love coffee - too much. In moderation, I feel there is no harm at all drinking coffee. I've been eating well, exercising, stopped drinking alcohol. I've made progress in many areas, but no, not coffee consumption. I think I've actually increased the amount I drink as I improved other areas, so I need to cut down, and it sure is difficult. | |||

I have tried several times to quit caffine. I have two addictions- coffee and diet soda (which i know is worse for me than probably anything i consume). Everytime I try to quit I have severe headaches which eventually lead me to start drinking coffee again. Anybody have any tips? | |||

Expert Yogi Posts: 8442 | When I had to temporarily cut out caffeine, I weaned myself by using a good quality decaf, using 3/4 regular and 1/4 decaf for a week, then gradually increasing the amount of decaf to 100%. And I do mean gradual. I think it took a month, but it did not have any headaches. As soon as I could have the real stuff again, I went for it. Good luck! Oh - I just have one cup in the am now and black tea at lunch (or not, as noted above). RARELY a small cup with a big dinner out, if I know I'll be staying up late anyway. | ||

Veteran Posts: 258 | There were periods that I drank a lot of coffee and there were also periods when I had quit it completely. My own conclusion is, that two caps of coffee a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, are good for me and I enjoy them. If I drink one more cup, my stomach hurts and I feel stressed, if I drink no coffee at all, it’s o.k., but I feel a little weak. Like everything, I think caffeine also is a matter of meter. | ||
