How do you keep yours clean? (personal or studio mats) The mats at the gym need a good cleaning!

Studio mats I would use a 1:10 solution of bleach:water. My personal mat I use a household cleaner sprayed lightly, wiped and air dried.
It will be interesting to hear others method of cleaning!

Peace,
Deb

I posted this as my own topic...and of course you may want something more along the lines of a disinfectant....

But I just used my "Body Works" Tea Tree Oil body wash. Its just a big jug of soap with a pump at the top I get at wal-mart for like 3 bucks. I just wet my mat down and then got it all sudsy, rinsed it off and hung it up to dry for a day.

Im sure everyone has their own system....and i bet you could make a mixture with 1/3 disinfectant and soap...or whatever.

I remember the "Method" brand of cleaner stuff which is sold at Target being mentioned once or twice on here...but I dont remember if it was for house cleaning or mat cleaning. Anyway...everyone has their own technique. Mine works since my practice is fairly non-sweaty atm. I just need to get the carpet smell out every now and then, plus im the only one using my mat, so I only have to worry about my own germs....w00t

We take our studio mats to a local laundromat that seems to specialize in cleaning just about everything. Every break (around now, spring break, summer) there seems to be stacks of mats from every studio in town there to get cleaned! I think they actually hang them to dry but I'm not sure. I just deliver 'em and pick 'em up We wash all of our own blankets, though.

Lately I've been using my Williams Sonoma Grapefruit Dish Soap to wash my mats. It's smells very fresh, its made with the EO of Grapefruit and is gentle. Then I hang them outside on a sunny day to dry. My pink mat is the hardest to clean though, I have no idea where the little black marks came from, and they are a pain to rub out.

I put mine through the wash too. I set the mashine to cold/gentle cycle. Also, I only put a small amouth of detergent in with it, Then I hang it to dry.

My yoga mat is a rubberised version- am I being dizzy if |I ask if you are putting the same through a machine wash?

I usually clean mine with whatever is at hand- which has included washing powder, liquid soap. shampoo and even bubble bath!
