Subject: Stress Fracture of my right tibia!!

I started Bikram Yoga and loved it. I went every day for about three months. Very soon after starting I had pain in my ankle. Since I have been losing weight, blood pressure getting amazing better I just ignored the pain. I actually gave myself a stress-fracture from bending the bone repeatedly back and forth (like a "paper clip" according to the doctor, till it snapped) Now, I am in an air-cast and all I can think about is how I can safely get back to the Bikram Yoga. Should I change to another type of yoga? I already know the instructors and people in the class. I miss it terribly. (I'm 53, with about 40 pounds to lose, on blood pressure medications, otherwise healthy)
How Can I get back into Bikram which I LOVE?
OR- Should I start some other kind of yoga that would help me lose weight and be as much fun as the Bikram?

OK as some one too w/ a fracture I will put in my too cents of experience......
have you been to a bone specialist? a bone density test? taking anything for bone health?
Like me... the way you fractured does not seem like it would happen to someone w/ strong normal bones at your age. I now after my fracture have been diagnosed and am taking treatment for osteoporosis. I do continue my practice and in fact am back to my 6x a week and feeling FAB.

Amy has been there and done that, so I would listen to her!!

I know stress fractures can occur for many reasons, like if you are usually sedentary and then abruptly start a physical activity, but I think they are usually associated with high-impact athletics like running, marching, dancing, etc. Since yoga is more or less a ZERO-impact activity, a yoga-caused stress fracture seems like a red flag to me. Find out what's going on!

If you LOVE Bikram, I really hope you can continue to do it!! It sounds like you have been seeing some great benefits and having a good time so far, so hopefully this is just a bump in the road.
