some of my friends told me that eating salty food a week before your period can cause menstrual cramps in the abdominal area. do you think there is truth behind that?

Did your friends say why this may be so and have a convincing reason?

I'm not sure I can or know how to respond to your exact question. But I would recommend bumping up your exercise routine the week before your period: I believe this can help relieve sympthoms.

Salty food is not good before period as it retains water in the body cells. As women feel "fat" and bloated before the period due to the hormones that already retain water before the period, eating too much salt can result in cramps as the body fluids are already in high level of acidity before the period.
