Subject: New to meditation

Hi,

Yesterday I meditated (Vipassana) for 5 mins in the morning and 5 mins in the evening. But I could not sleep last night. I sat in meditation around 5 pm and went to bed at 11:30 pm but could not sleep until 3 am.  When I was trying to sleep, my body was tired, my eyes were heavy, but I was just too alert to sleep. This was the first time that I meditated.

Am I doing anything wrong? Please guide me.

When you say "vipasana" what does that look like when you practice it?

It is sitting with eyes closed and observing thoughts, feelings, emotions. Eyes are focused on the heart. Focusing on the location between my eyes gives me headache so I focus on the heart region.

Carson gave the link of AYP site. There is "I AM" mantra meditation. I tried it but it also gave the same result.

I bought a meditation CD with sounds of nature. It didn't help either.

I never tried walking meditation. May be it is a bit less intense.

Hello moderators,

Some messages from this thread are deleted. May I know why? I thought they were suggestions from other users regarding my meditation issues.

Thank you.
