| Hi,
i am new to massage. I have some personal experience only, and i want to learn a massage (in school). I think about Thai or Shiatsu.
Can someone explain the differences of this 2?
I need as much more info so i can think about what to learn.

| it's really worth to do first some anathomy, ohysiology and some swedish massage and than progress to more advanced techniques.
shiatsu is new technique, which appeared only some 50 year ago. Is based on thai massage (very similar possitions of the body) and on the chinese massage (meridians and pressure points). To learn properly takes up to 2 years of a formal education in the college.
thai is much simpler, much less theory and philosophy. To learn basics you need some 50h learning and than a lot of practice, as thai massage is much stronger than any other massage technique and you really have to be careful how you work with the client.
because you are not a professional nad because you don't have yet anathomy, start off with thai massage and possibly after that you might try to learn some shiatsu.

| The word shiatsu means "finger pressure", and shiatsu is sometimes described as a finger pressure massage.
Shiatsu is basically done on mat on floor.Unlike other forms of massage, with shiatsu no massage oil is applied.
The characteristic of shiatsu as defined by Namikoshi is to apply pressure using only the fingers, palms and especially the thumbs on points that have been related to the central and autonomic nervous systems.
