maybe this has been answered here before

alchohol, is supposedly bad for you from everything I have read on it in yoga texts. Is a red wine considered the same according to auyervedic and yoga?

I stopped all consumption of alcohol nearly 7 years ago, but

if you like wine, then Sauvingnon Blanc from New Zealand is quite possibly the best, and has remained so since I sold it.

It's a white, and starts out wet, fat, and fruity, then the fruit starts to dry and exclaim it's flavor in a very dry finish.

I remember that wine being one of the most fabulous tastings I ever held.

I don't know why red wine would be considered differently since it is an alcoholic beverage.

It is primarily western studies that tout the health benefits of red wine and moderate alcohol consumption in general. One study also suggested that stout and dark beers had many of the heart healthy benefits of red wine when compared to lighter colored beers. (I'm partial to that one!)

I am not familiar with the auyervedic texts and what they recommend, but I imagine they predate the current round of western studies by a fair number of years since folks started to explore the idea of the "French Paradox". Were you looking for an update?

It depends on if you are refering to physical or spiritual health.

Physically, many medical studies point to the benefits of the occassional glass of red wine for heart health etc.

Mentally, wine dulls the senses so will affect a person's control of their mind.

In Yogic terms, spiritual development follows mental control.
