I'm new to this whole thing. I was just wondering if there is a certain type of yoga that is particularily benificial to the skin. Acne and bad skin sucks and since yoga is so helpful for many other things could it help here too?

thanks

Healthyboy, if you're still watching this thread... acne is often due to excess heat and dampness in your body (from a Traditional Chinese Medicine, TCM, viewpoint), which usually comes from consuming too much heating/stimulating/dampness inducing foods/drinks like overcooked meats, spices, anything fried, commercialized dairy products, alcohol, coffee, and refined, processed, nutritionally dead junk foods.

So, absolutely the first thing you've gotta do is address any dietary factors by eliminating/reducing the above kinds of food/drinks and consuming more foods in as close to their natural state as possible.

Also, in addition to yoga and a healthy diet, I highly recommend dry skin brushing. This is a simple method to clean, tone and smooth your skin, stimulate your lymphatic system to drain away waste, improve blood flow and more. Go to a health food store or similar and ask for a natural bristle body brush with a long handle.

Once or twice a day before showering, brush every surface of your body (except face and genitals) in long, smooth, sweeping strokes towards your colon, i.e. from toes to groin, fingers to shoulders, down your neck and throat, down your chest (not your nipples) and down your back. Several sweeps over each surface should take no more than 5 minutes. Then, have an alternating hot/cold shower to enhance the effects... 3min hot/1min cold/3min hot/1min cold. If you can, don't use soap etc just after skin brushing as your skin will absorb the chemicals from it.

All the best,

Matthew
