Subject: New to Yoga

Hello,
My daughter is 7 and her teacher teaches the class yoga. I found it very interesting so I'm thinking about giving it a go. Not just for toning and flexibility, but to also help me process stress better. Sometimes I'm so stressed that I have anxiety attacks, I've been on anxiety meds but I hate taking them. Please stir me in the right direction as far as what type of Yoga would be right for me. Also, I would like to practice yoga with my daughter... where should we start?
Thanks,
Newbie to Yoga

HI Renee,

Welcome to yoga. there are many apporoaches you can take: trying out different types of yoga and then picking which one you feel suite yoiu best is probably a good route to go. Restorative yoga, less poses, holding them longer can give your adrenal glands a needed break. Iyenagr yoga is good in the sense , taht you can do specific poses for specific aiilmentnts. Personally, I find Ashtanga yoga wonderful for anxiety. It makes me feel strong, it really gets out my anxieties,Since it's a set series of postures that don't really change much. I feel calm knowing that I know which posture comes next. I like practising Mysore, and the self directedness of it.
If you have more questions please ask.

I hope that you find something you like.
Namaste, CindyS.
