| I was wondering if there are any guidlines for adapting yoga to those that are overweight or obese. Are there any classes that cater just to those types of individuals. Thanks for you response |

| Jason, I was looking for similar information myself. Found these websites helpful:
http://www.iayt.org/weightmgt.pdf
http://www.yogapoint.com/info/newsletter1.htm
http://www.personalmd.com/news/yoga3_80900.shtml
http://plusyoga.necaweb.com/YFreebiesframe3.html
If you want more info, do a Google (or other search engine) search with the terms YOGA and OBESE.
Good luck,

| Hi Jason,
Usually overweight people have problems with forward bends and inversions. For forward bends you can have your legs apart and use a yoga strap and if you are having difficulty with inversions you should probably just avoid them or only do legs up the wall pose.
There was a good article in Yoga Journal a few months ago about teaching yoga to overweight students. You may also want to read the article I wrote "Using Yoga for Weight Loss" on my site YogaBasics.com here: http://www.yogabasics.com/articles/weightLoss.html for more info on this subject.
I did recently teach a class on this subject and the attendance was very poor. I think it would be difficult to find a weekly class for overweight people unless you live in a big city. |
