hi folks! I was wondering if there was any poses or a flow of poses you could recommend to me? Although I am getting to bed at a reasonable hour and hoping to get 7/8 hours sleep, I always seem to wake up more tired than I started off with! I dream A LOT in my sleep, some nights having up to 3 different dream sequences that i remember so goddess knows how many I actually have. My brain doesnt seem to switch off so I just surface sleep. Any yoga poses you could suggest to wind down fully, properly relax and getting snoozy? Thanks folks. Its really starting to get me down now. Sezo x

Expert Yogi Posts: 8442 | Sezo - the Iyengar book of Holistic Health has a nice practice for insomnia. If I were to pick a few poses in the sequence that might work I would say, uttanasana, down dog, seated forward bends, (all of the previous poses with head support) supta baddha konasana and halasana, plus savasana, of course. PM me if you want the whole series.

Sezo: Yoga exercise might help you. But, your method of thinking on this is wrong. You should think of changing the life style possibly. It depends on what all you are doing. I shall suggest Meditation practice more than Yoga Exercise, but also doing Yoga Exercises. All these should be learnt through instruction. Best Luck

I feel Yoga Nidra can help too. Another technique called "Swayam Trataka" or Self Trataka can also help. It includes slowly moving your power of attention to 48 main centers of body (spanning across legs to head). This can accompany with a small mantra or so-ham.

Breathe learn about different pranayama techniques and practice pay attention to your breathing try focusing on the breath coming in your nose and out your nose this may help you slow down a little, and then you can pay attention to the multitude of thoughts in your mind Swami Vishnu-Devananda wrote some great stuff on breathing, very easy to understand after I read his stuff it really sealed the deal with me and my relationship with yoga for the rest of my life, very inspirational to me Hewitt also has a very good reference book with an entire section on pranayama-breathing paying attention to my breathing is always helpful for me whenever I run into sleeping or energy concerns. Good Luck with your practice.

I asked my teacher tonight when I had a chance to talk to her after practice and she suggested some of the breathing techniques we use to try and empty my brain enough to sleep properly lol. I do meditate, but if I leave that too late I find it makes my dreams more intense, not less so I meditate early evening or morning so that it doesnt upset my flow too much. Thanks folks.. (off to translate the sanskrit) Sezo x

I find that meditating right before bed is a really good way to have some really funky meditations, particular if you find yourself crossing and re-crossing the boundary between sleep and wakefulness.

Thanks Sezo. That is for Teacher's Background. Can you now describe your actual class in detail, please? Also, if you can elaborate the breathing and meditation part that is better. If you can not post it here, and prefer to send a private email do so. This is important in terms of answering your question.

I love getting a good nights' sleep, I'd like to take a nap right now. I think I'll insist on taking care of my youngest and baby sitting this weekend, that's sure to earn me a nap during nap time!

New User Posts: 2 | HI DEAR, I WILL GIVE YOU MY IDEA TO COME OUT OF THE PROBLEM. REASON FOR YOUR SLEEPLESSNESS/ DREAMS : EXCESSIVE USAGE OF YOUR SENCE ORGANS .. (EYES, EARS, NOSE, TOUNGUE, SKIN). 1.WITHDRAW YOUR SENSES FORM EXTERNAL STIMULANTS. YOUR MIND WILL BE HAVING LESS INPUT DATA, LESS PROCESSING REQUIRED 2.AT THAT STAGE YOU TRY TO MEDITATE. ULTIMATELY YOUR BODY , MIND, AND SOUL WILL BE GET PEACE...PEACE...PEACE

New User Posts: 4 | Don't think too much when you were going to sleep because it will not help you if you have something on your mind. Let's make your mind take a rest. Just relax and stay away from stress. Yoga will help you for this situation, there are different types of yoga for you. This poses would help more.
